After successfully launching internationally renowed golf resorts during the last decade, Turkey became one of the elite golfing centres, combining elegance, quality and prestige serving golf lovers of the world.
In particular, after the opening of several resorts in Belek, Turkey has become the most recent favourite of international golfers and it was awarded with the title of Golf Destination of the Year - Europe 2008 by the IAGTO. Therefore, it has gained a new status as a host to international golf tournaments.The first step of the European professional golf tour, namely the Challenge Tour, will be held in Turkey in 2010 with the participation of 22 countries. Moreover, the World Golf Championship organized biennially will be held in 2012 in Belek.
Wide areas of land and a temperate climate suitable for golfing all year round along the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts offer great potential for developing golf tourism.
The Belek district is situated about 30 km east of Antalya, has developed as the centre for golfing with its top quality courses and facilities. Alongside the long established courses and resorts in international standards are also being developed in Kapadokya, Mersin, Aydın and Izmir.
